Each year, many Nigerian students come to Canada for a postsecondary degree. In fact, Canada welcomes more than 10,000 Nigerian students annually, making this beautiful country the main source of international students from sub-Saharan Africa in Canada.

Minimum Admission Requirements
If you’re applying from a secondary school, you must meet the following conditions to be considered for admission to an undergraduate program:
- Have obtained, or be in the process of obtaining, your West African Examinations Council Senior School Certificate (WAEC) or West African Senior School Certificate of Education (WASSCE).
- Have a minimum average of 75% (requirements may be higher depending on the program you select).
- Have completed, or be in the process of completing, the prerequisites (scroll to “Prepare to apply”) for the program you select. Unless otherwise indicated, you must complete all prerequisites at the secondary school senior level.

If you have started or completed postsecondary studies and meet the following conditions, you can be considered for admission to an undergraduate program. You must:
- Have a minimum average of 70% (requirements may be higher depending on the program you select).
- Have completed, or be in the process of completing, the prerequisites (scroll to “Prepare to apply”) required for the program you select. Unless otherwise indicated, you must complete all prerequisites at the secondary school senior or the postsecondary level.

Required Documents
If you’re currently studying for your West African Examinations Council Senior School Certificate (WAEC) or West African Senior School Certificate of Education (WASSCE), submit the following documents through our uoZone portal:
- Transcript of the past three years of secondary studies
- Transcript of results from the first term of your final year
If you’ve already graduated, submit the following documents through uoZone:
- Your WAEC or WASSCE results
- Proof of diploma
If you’re applying with your postsecondary education started or completed, submit the following documents through our uoZone portal:
- All postsecondary transcripts
- Your WAEC or WASSCE results
- Proof of diploma
Language Requirements
Courses at the University of Ottawa are given in English, French or both languages. You must master one of the two languages to be admitted.
If you’re applying for an English-language program and haven’t completed at least three years of full-time study in an institution where English is the only language of instruction (except for language courses), in a country where English is an official language, you must submit your official score after taking one of the language tests we recognize.

Advanced standing (credit transfer)
If you’ve completed some postsecondary studies, you’ll be evaluated on them, even if you’re applying for an undergraduate program.
We may grant you advanced standing (i.e., transfer your credits), depending on the program you apply to. Faculties that grant advanced standing base their decision on the discipline, the courses you’ve completed, and the length of your studies.
