Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, also known as JS Tarka University, is a Nigerian higher education institution in Makurdi, Benue State.

It was established in 2012 and named after Joseph Sarwuan Tarka, a prominent Nigerian politician, and nationalist who played a significant role in the country’s history.

JS Tarka University is a state-owned university recognized by Nigeria’s National Universities Commission (NUC).

Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University Admission Requirements

Undergraduate

  1. Minimum of five credit passes in relevant subjects in not more than two sittings at the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) or its equivalent (e.g., WAEC, NECO, GCE).
  2. Candidates must meet the minimum JAMB (Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board) score required for their desired course of study. The university determines the specific cutoff mark, which may vary from year to year.
  3. Candidates are required to sit for the UTME (Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination) organized by JAMB and select Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University as their preferred choice during the registration process.
  4. A combination of O’Level results may be accepted for certain programs, subject to the university’s policies.
  5. Candidates may be required to participate in a post-UTME screening exercise conducted by the university.

Postgraduate

  1. A minimum bachelor’s degree (with a minimum class of second-class lower division) from a recognized university.
  2. Academic transcripts from the applicant’s previous institution(s) of study.
  3. Candidates may be required to submit references or recommendation letters from academic or professional sources.
  4. Some programs may require candidates to sit for entrance examinations or interviews.
  5. Meeting the specific departmental requirements for the desired program of study.
