    • Kingsley,

The terms “screening” and “Post UTME” are often used interchangeably when referring to the additional admission tests conducted by universities in Nigeria after the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) exam. However, there are some subtle differences between the two:

      Screening:

      1. Broader term: Screening can refer to various assessment methods used by universities during the admission process. This could include reviewing academic transcripts, O’Level results, JAMB scores, and personal statements.

      2. Not always an exam: Screening might not involve a formal test. In some cases, universities might only use existing data and documents to assess candidates.

      3. Can be combined with other assessments: Screening can be part of a multi-stage process, and universities might use it in conjunction with other assessments like Post UTME exams or interviews.

      Post UTME:

      1. Specifically refers to an exam: Post UTME is a formal examination conducted by universities after the JAMB exam. It typically involves multiple-choice questions and sometimes essays or short-answer questions.

      2. Focuses on specific areas: Post UTME exams often assess knowledge and skills relevant to the chosen course of study, unlike screening which is more general.

      3. Mandatory for most universities: While not all universities conduct Post UTME, it is mandatory for a large number of institutions in Nigeria.
