Qatar is one of the wealthiest countries in the world as it is one of the top producers of oil and natural gas.

Asides from these natural resources, Qatar is very hospitable to foreigners, has a great healthcare system, and an excellent security system, to name a few!

Passport visa

If you plan to travel to Qatar, you need a visa. The visa permits you to study, live, or work legally in Qatar.

Different Qatari visas depend on what you want to do in Qatar and how long you wish to stay there.

Types of Qatar Visas

The following are the types of Qatar visas;

  • Qatari Tourist Visa (E-Visa)
  • Qatari Student Visa
  • Qatari Business Visa
  • Qatari Transit Visa
  • Qatari Work Visa

Qatari Tourist Visa (E-Visa)

The Qatari immigration service has made the process more lenient for Nigerians, among other countries, to travel to Qatar for tourism purposes.

This visa is an online visa that can be obtained by completing an online application.

A single-entry visa permits Nigerians to stay in the country for up to 30 days.

Qatari Student Visa

Are you thinking of schooling in Qatar? Then this visa is for you.

The Qatari student visa permits you to study in Qatar.

Note that this is a temporary visa, and you are only allowed to stay in the country for the duration of your program.

Qatari Business Visa

The Qatari business visa is issued to individuals who want to travel to Qatar for short business activities.

The business visa is valid for only three months. Once this visa expires, it would be illegal to stay in the country.

Qatari Transit Visa

If you are going to another country, but you need to stop in Qatar, you must get a Qatari transit visa. The transit visa is also an online visa that can be obtained after you have completed an online application.

Note that this visa is valid for ONLY four days and cannot be extended.

If you wish to stay in Qatar for longer, you should apply for a regular tourist visa.

To be eligible for this visa, you must also have a layover in Qatar for more than five hours.

Qatari Work Visa

If you are going to Qatar to seek employment, you should apply for a work visa.

The work visa is valid for a period between one and three months. However, you must have secured employment in Qatar before applying for this visa.

Other types of visas include Qatari  Newborn Visa, Qatari Investor Visa, Qatari  Family Residence Visa, Qatari  Real Estate visa, etc.

Also, note that Qatar’s government has suspended e-visa applications, and there are no details on when the suspension will be lifted.

Qatar Visa Requirements

Every Qatari visa type has specific requirements that applicants must meet before being considered for the visa.

However, the general requirements for a Qatari visa include the following:

  1. International Passport
  2. Passport Photographs
  3. Visa Application Form
  4. Proof of Accommodation
  5. Proof of Medical Insurance
  6. Proof of Sufficient Funds
  7. Flight Reservation
  8. Proof of Paid Visa Fees

International Passport

You must possess an international passport that will remain valid for at least six months after you arrive in Qatar.

This passport should have at least two blank pages where the embassy would place your visa stamps or stickers.

You also need to make a copy of the data page of your passport and show if you have previously obtained visas.

Passport Photographs

You must present at least two passport photographs taken on a white background.

It must be a recent photograph that measures 35mm by 45mm.

You are not allowed to wear any glasses or even use headgear except for religious reasons; your face must be visible.

Visa Application Form

You must present a filled-out application form.

This form must be correctly filled in block letters with your appended signature.

Proof of Accommodation

You must show that you have a place to stay once you arrive in Qatar.

You can do this by presenting a hotel reservation which must show your full name, contact details of the hotel and the entry and exit dates.

You can get an invitation letter if you have a Qatar family member or friend.

Proof of Medical Insurance

You must prove that they have gotten health insurance to cover health costs.

This insurance must be valid throughout your stay in Qatar.

Proof of Sufficient Funds

You must present proof that you can support yourself financially throughout your stay in Qatar.

You can do this by submitting your bank statements for the past three months or that of your sponsor if you have any possession of a minimum of 5000 QR.

Also, your sponsor must provide a letter stating that they are willing to support you while you are in Qatar.

Flight Reservation

You must provide your flight itinerary and show that you have already booked tickets for a return trip.

It must show your travel details such as full name, arrival date and departure date etc.

Proof of Paid Visa Fees

You must show that you have already paid the fees for the Qatari visa you wish to apply for.

Qatari Tourist Visa Requirements

  1. Complete your Application

    You can download the visa application form and complete it.

    However, if you apply for the e-visa, you can complete your application form online.

    As earlier noted, online applications for the e-visa are currently suspended.

    After completing the form honestly, append your signature and date it.

  2. Prepare your Documents

    Get all the documents stated above ready. If the embassy needs additional documents, you will be duly informed.

    It is important to make extra copies of each document if required.

    These documents should be submitted online (for e-visa applications) or at the embassy.

    I recommend that you cross-check them properly to ensure that none is missing.

  3. Pay your Fees

    You can pay the relevant visa fees online or at the embassy.

    The Qatari visa fees, as seen on the website of the Embassy of Qatar, Abuja, vary depending on the type of visa.

    For instance, a business visa costs 200QR, while a transit visa costs 100QR.

  4. Submit your Application

    Along with the relevant documents, submit your application to the embassy.

    Your biometrics (fingerprints and photos) will also be taken at the embassy.

    You must have already uploaded your documents online at this point for e-visa applications.

  5. Collect your Passport

    For e-visa applications, you would be notified via the email you provided once your application has been approved, and an e-visa would be sent to your email.

    For physical applications, you would also be notified once a decision has been made, and you’d be told when to collect your passport and any other documents.

Qatar Visa Processing Time

There is no specific time for the Qatari visa processing.

However, depending on various factors, you may receive a response within 8-10 working days.

Qatar Visa Rejection

The following may cause your visa application to be rejected:

  • A damaged or invalid passport
  • Photos that don’t meet the requirements

      The Qatari Ministry of Interior (MOI) has the following requirements for joining the Qatar security force:

      1. Be a Qatari national.
      2. Be between the ages of 21 and 35.
      3. Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
      4. Be physically and mentally fit.
      5. Have no criminal record.
      6. Be fluent in Arabic.
      7. Pass a security clearance check.

      The MOI also requires that applicants have a minimum of five years of relevant experience in security or law enforcement. Applicants who do not meet this requirement may be considered for a position if they have other skills or qualifications that are deemed to be of value to the Qatar security force.
