High Employment Rate

As earlier noted, nursing is a trendy job in the UK, and the National Health Service (NHS) requires more nurses every year to cater to the country’s health needs.

Since this career will always be in demand, you don’t have to worry about looking for a job as long as you have the right qualifications.

Once you are employed, you will also enjoy complete job security.

Good Income

You can be a nurse in the UK and have a stable income to cover your financial needs.

Your income, however, depends on your qualifications, skills, and job description.

Interestingly, the average salary of a registered nurse in the UK is about £25,000, and that’s a lot of money for you, depending on your lifestyle.

Flexibility

Nursing is not a static profession. If it were, many people would have opted out a long time ago as they wouldn’t be able to bear the monotonous routine for a long.

Hence, as a nurse, you can choose to specialize in any field that catches your fancy as long as you have the qualifications.

For instance, you can choose to be a theatre nurse, midwife nurse, or psychiatric nurse, among others!

Aside from this, your work schedule is flexible as you can choose to work from 9-5 on the night or rotational shifts.

Growth and Development

The NHS provides opportunities for nurses to learn and develop themselves in line with the profession.

You can plan and pursue your career goals, and you also have access to a personal development review.

You can get hold of excellent courses, gain more experience, etc., that would positively impact your career.

Note that you should register as an “Adult Nurse” if you are a Registered Nurse.

You can also select Children, Mental Health, or Learning Disabilities if you are a specialist in the area.

Pay the Evaluation Fee

After you have provided your information, you must pay the evaluation fee, which costs £140.

Verify Your Details With the NMCN

Pay the NMC Registration Fee

After uploading the relevant documents, pay the registration fee, which costs £153.

Once paid, you can get the health declaration via mail from your medical regulator.

Be sure to have informed this person before you send a mail.

You can track your application through the NMC portal and monitor your progress.

Apply for a Nursing Job

You can now apply for a job to begin working in the UK.

After applying, you’d be scheduled for a virtual interview, and if you are successful, you would be given an employment letter.

This letter contains your job description, salary, terms, and conditions of employment, and additional benefits, among other relevant information.

Be sure to go through this letter correctly, consider factors peculiar to you, and ask questions before you sign it.

Note that once you sign it, it becomes binding on you and your employer.

Apply for your visa and submit the relevant documents.

The documents needed for your visa application include the following, among others:

  1. Good day Blessing, thank you for the infor, I am a registered nurse with four years working experience with a state hospital management board currently doing my BSc nursing with ABU, I will love to travel with my family but my concern is the possibility of my husband who is a senior civil servant with the federal Agency in Nigeria to getting a job in UK… And what is the minimum dependants allow? Thank you.

    Reply
    • The minimum number of dependants allowed on a UK visa depends on the type of visa you are applying for. For the Skilled Worker visa, which is the most common visa for skilled workers, you can bring your spouse or civil partner and children under the age of 18 as dependants.

Your husband is a senior civil servant, which is a skilled occupation in the UK. He should be able to find a job in the UK without any problems. However, it is important to note that the job market in the UK is competitive, so he may need to do some research and networking to find a suitable job.

Once your husband has found a job in the UK, you can apply for a Skilled Worker visa for yourself and your dependants. You will need to show that your husband has a job offer that meets the salary requirements for the Skilled Worker visa. You will also need to show that you have enough money to support yourself and your dependants without relying on public funds.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

  3. Who pays for accommodation once the nurse is here?

What if they are sick or on maternity leave and have no income?
I run a food bank and am supporting someone who is here and on maternity leave – I don’t know how they can afford rental fees etc. as she has no access to government funds.

We are now providing her with food, and we have given her all her baby goods push chair & lots of household items which she could not afford etc.

    • In the case of the nurse you are supporting, it sounds like she may be eligible for housing benefit from the DWP. You can help her to apply for this benefit by providing her with the following information:

      1. Her name, address, and National Insurance number
      2. Her income and expenses
      3. The name and address of her landlord

You can apply for housing benefit online or by calling the DWP on 0800 328 5644.

The nurse may also be eligible for other benefits from the DWP, such as income support or jobseeker’s allowance. You can find more information about these benefits on the DWP website.

I am glad to hear that you are providing the nurse with food and other essential items. You are making a real difference to her life. If you are able to, you could also help her to find a job or to volunteer. This would help her to get back on her feet and to become more independent.

  4. Thank you for the week detailed info. But the problem now is that UK hospitals, Care homes and recruitment agency are presently not actively recruiting health workers from countries that are on the WHO red list. It is very difficult. Please is there any other way you know how someone can go about it. Thanks

Nigeria is indeed on the WHO red list.

But I strongly recommend you continue applying for working opportunities in the health sector.

      Good luck.
