How to Apply for NYSC Change of Date of Birth & Course 2024

Changing your date of birth or course of study is possible on the NYSC online portal dashboard.

The NYSC change of birth portal dashboard is the online platform where the National Youth Service Corps members can make corrections to the error with their date of birth.

Many prospective youth corpers make mistakes with their date of birth or course of study during their online registration on the NYSC portal. For this reason, you can do a change of date or course of study on the NYSC portal login dashboard.

The NYSC discharge certificate carries your date of birth, full name, NYSC certificate & Call Up number and year of service.

A mistake with your date of birth on the discharge certificate will hinder your chances of employment and appointment for political offices.

In this post, I will show you the easy steps on how you can apply for a change of date of birth and course of study on the NYSC portal.

Let me know in the comment if you have any questions or need further assistance. I would love to hear from you.

NYSC Date of Birth

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) uses WAEC and JAMB exam date of birth. Your date of birth (DOB) registration with these examination boards must be the same.

Any discrepancy with your date of birth will affect you in the future.

It will take you between twenty-four (24) to forty-eight (48) hours to change your date of birth on the NYSC online portal.

The NYSC change of date of birth is free.

NYSC Age Requirement

The NYSC age requirement for prospective youth service corpers is thirty (30) years. Prospective corp members cannot register for the National Youth Service Corps if they are above thirty (30) years.

Graduates above thirty (30) years would get the NYSC exemption certificate.

There is no disadvantage to getting the NYSC exemption certificate letter.

NYSC uses the date of birth on your JAMB and WAEC certificates for mobilization for the youth service orientation camp.

The only way to reduce your age for NYSC is to change your date of birth on the JAMB portal through regularization. You would also have to update your age with your school senate committee.

NYSC Course of Study

The NYCS Change of Course of study is available on the NYSC online portal dashboard.

You make corrections for the course you studied in school.

The NYSC Change of Department is free.

    • Hello Oma,

I wish you a fruitful year.

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) stipulates that graduates must be below or not above 30 years old at the time of graduation. This means your age at the time your final results are officially approved and released by the senate is what determines your eligibility, not your current age.

It means you are eligible for service. I wish you the best of luck.

Let me know if you have further questions.

    • Hello, I’m a foreign student, I registered for NYSC Mobilization this month, and I graduated on 10th /1/2017, my date of birth date is 8th/7/ 1987 same as my international passport. After evaluation and physical verification, I found out I was exempted and the exemption certificate is being processed, later I realized they used my WAEC date of birth which shows 8th/7/1984 to evaluate me instead of my international passport date of birth.
I received this message on my dashboard as follow:

      “Dear D…..D…….,
      Kindly note the following for confirmation;
      Name: D…..D…..
      Date of Birth: 08/07/1987
      Date of Graduation: 10/01/2017

Please be informed that NYSC will only effect correction on already produced certificate of exemption within 3 Month from the date of your online registration, Particularly, your date of birth.

You are therefore advised to collect your original certificate of exemption from NYSC HQ on time.

      Thank You”
My worries is that I want apply for a change of date of birth to the one on my international passport, will it affect the exemption certificate. For me I want an exemption letter I don’t want to go for the NYSC but I want to have the same date of birth as my passport. Because I realized that that using the date of birth on my passport I will be 29 years 6month, not up 30 at the time of graduation. And they said correction can only be done after receiving the original exemption letter.
      Thanks

      • I understand your concern about the date of birth discrepancy on your NYSC exemption certificate. Here’s how to address it:

        1. Contact NYSC Immediately:

Don’t wait to receive the exemption certificate. Since you’re within the 3-month window for correction (from online registration), contact NYSC headquarters directly and explain the situation. Highlight these points:

        a. You’re a foreign student exempt from service.
        b. The exemption certificate uses your WAEC date of birth (1984) instead of your passport’s date (1987).
        c. You want to correct the date of birth to match your passport.

        Contact options:

NYSC Headquarters phone number: You can find their contact details on the official NYSC website (https://www.nysc.gov.ng/).

Email: Consider sending an email explaining the situation and attaching a copy of your passport for reference.

        2. Emphasize Exemption Status:

Clearly state your exemption and lack of interest in NYSC service. Explain that the date correction is solely to ensure consistency with your passport, a crucial document.

        3. Be Prepared:

While the website mentions a 3-month window for correction, NYSC might require additional verification for a foreign student. Be prepared to provide supporting documents like:

        a. A copy of your international passport (birth date proof).
        b. Evidence of your foreign student status (acceptance letter, visa documents).
        c. Any official communication you received regarding exemption.

        4. Follow-up is Key:

Maintain communication with NYSC. If you don’t receive a response within a reasonable timeframe, politely follow up on your request.

        Here’s the key takeaway:

The date of birth correction shouldn’t affect your exemption status. It’s about ensuring consistency with your passport, a vital document. By acting promptly and providing proper documentation, you can hopefully get the exemption certificate with the correct date of birth.

    • Hello Ibrahim,

The DOB on your JAMB portal is what would be used for your NYSC mobilization.

I advise you do the correction on your JAMB profile as soon as possible.

  3. Good day, please i would like to know your advice on this, I have just passed out from NYSC and my discharge certificate is showing the wrong Date of Birth, please how will I go about this?.

    • Unfortunately, NYSC does not officially entertain requests for date of birth correction on discharge certificates after service completion.

This policy is strictly enforced to maintain document integrity and prevent possible misuse.

The solution is to get an affidavit from a court of law declaring the error in your date of birth.

My date of birth on Waec is wrong and likewise the one on jamb, but have gone to do the correction on jamb so i was told to submit the form to my school!

Firstly if i should submit the form to school how long will it take to reflect on jamb??

Secondly have registered for nysc but haven’t gone to camp so will it reflect??

Please i will like to have even if it’s your business number for smooth communication

        • If you’ve already followed JAMB’s official procedures for date of birth correction, including submitting the Indemnity Form to your school, the timeframe for reflection can vary. It typically takes three (3) weeks.

If you haven’t attended NYSC camp yet, the date of birth correction on JAMB shouldn’t affect your NYSC registration as long as the correction processes are completed before your camp date.

Once the correction reflects on JAMB, it will likely update on your NYSC registration as well. However, it’s best to confirm with NYSC to ensure everything is in order.

Let me know if you have further questions.

  5. Good morning, pls my question is that, my date of birth in jamb portal is 10/07/1994 and I graduate this year, and the school Senate not mobilize our names for nysc until next year 2024 and when it reach 2024 is 30 years so I can apply for nysc in 2024 because the exact date to reach 30 years 10/07/2024 or I can’t unless I apply for the change of date of birth

    Reply
    • Yes, you can apply for NYSC in 2024, even if you reach 30 years old on the exact date of mobilization. The NYSC age limit is calculated based on your age on the day you graduate, not your age on the day of mobilization.

This is because the NYSC mobilization process can take several months, and it is possible that you may not be mobilized until after you have turned 30. However, as long as you graduated before you turned 30, you are still eligible to serve.

      Here is an example:

      * Your date of birth is 10/07/1994.
      * You graduate from university in December 2023.
      * You are mobilized for NYSC in January 2024.
      * You reach 30 years old on 10/07/2024.

Even though you reach 30 years old on the exact date of mobilization, you are still eligible to serve because you graduated before you turned 30.

Therefore, you do not need to apply for a change of date of birth in order to apply for NYSC in 2024.

I hope this information is helpful. Good luck with your NYSC service!

  7. Good evening Mr Blessing, I have an issue that’ve been eating me up since I registered for my NYSC on Thursday. I discovered that the DOB my Jamb is 1996 and I have 1997 on my Waec and my NYSC is showing 1996 and I believed it 1996 that is going to be recorded on my certificate which I don’t want that .
What do you suggest I do or what is the solution now before camp begins.

    Reply
    • To correct the DOB mismatch on your JAMB and WAEC results, you will need to apply for JAMB regularization. To do this, you will need to visit the JAMB office.

Once your application is processed and approved, your JAMB date of birth will be updated to match the one on your WAEC result slip. You can then proceed to register for NYSC again, using your updated JAMB date of birth.

Note: It is important to apply for JAMB regularization as soon as possible, so that you have enough time to get your date of birth updated before NYSC camp begins.

If you have any questions or concerns about the JAMB regularization process, you can let me know.

Another problem I’m having is that my name has been included on my institution senate list on NYSC portal Batch C. I want to know if the correction on jamb date of birth would still work since my name is out on the senate list and what do you think i should do since my name has been included on NYSC senate list. Can i apply for the WAEC DOB correction on NYSC portal through waec verification pin?

Please i would be happy to hear back from you.

        • Yes, you can still apply for the date of birth correction on the NYSC portal through the WAEC verification pin, even though your name has been included on the senate list. However, you should note that the correction process may take some time, and you may not be able to participate in the upcoming batch of NYSC orientation until the correction is complete.

Your request will be processed by the NYSC and you will be notified of the outcome. If your request is approved, your date of birth will be corrected on the NYSC portal and you will be able to participate in the next batch of NYSC orientation.

In the meantime, you should continue to follow up with the JAMB office to ensure that your date of birth correction request is processed as quickly as possible.

          • Hello Ade,

Which date of birth is correct?

Also, I have you met with the student affairs officer of your school?

          • My correct date of birth is 1994. I have already went to the student affairs officer of my school to confirm the date senate approved my result he said 05/07/23 which was tally with the one on NYSC senate list and my jamb DOB was 03/07/1993 while my real age on Waec was 1994. I don’t know if i should go ahead with the NYSC waec verification pin once batch c stream2 registration started or what do you think i should do since jamb are delaying?

          • Based on the information you have provided, I recommend that you go ahead with the NYSC WAEC verification pin once Batch C Stream 2 registration starts. This is because your date of birth on the NYSC Senate list is the same as the date that your school confirmed with you, which is also the date on your WAEC result.

Even though your JAMB date of birth is incorrect, you will be able to correct it after you have completed your NYSC registration. To do this, you will need to submit a sworn affidavit and a copy of your WAEC result to the NYSC office.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

          • Please make it clear to me. Will I need to visit NYSC office to submit my informations or I’m going do that online on NYSC portal (online) and can I use declarations of age by National Population Commission instead of sworn affidavits. The National Population Commission DOB document also signed in court.

          • You can submit your documents online through the NYSC portal. You do not need to visit the NYSC office in person.

Acceptable documents for date of birth correction:

            1. Sworn affidavit from a High Court of Justice

            2. Declaration of age from the National Population Commission (NPC)

Yes, you can use a declaration of age from the National Population Commission instead of a sworn affidavit to correct your date of birth with the NYSC. However, the NPC declaration of age document must be signed in court.

I carry on with the registration process and am done, I received am indemnity form which i took to my school (new age 1997). Now am asking can I do another regularzation using my old age . Am so worry because my waec is carrying 1993 . Please I need your advice

        • I understand your concern. It is possible to do another regularization using your old age, but there are a few things you need to do first.

First, you need to get a letter from your school stating that you were enrolled as a student in the year 1993. This letter should be signed by the school registrar or another authorized official.

Second, you need to submit a copy of your WAEC result to JAMB. This will prove that your actual date of birth is 10/August/1993.

Once you have these documents, you can apply for regularization with JAMB.

The only way to correct your date of birth after registration is to apply for a correction on your dashboard. However, the deadline for applying for a correction has passed, so you will need to contact the NYSC directly to inquire about your options.

However, there are some exceptions to this rule. For example, if you graduated from university in July 2021 and your date of birth is September 2, 1991, you will not turn 30 until September 2, 2024. This means that you have up to one year after graduation to register for the NYSC scheme.

And the only problem is that the when I was registering for jamb back then the cafe man put 3rd April 1995 instead of 8th April 1995. Please is that a concern since everything I used 8th

    • You are correct, there is no link for changing your date of birth on the NYSC portal after you have completed your registration. However, you can still apply for a change of date of birth by submitting an affidavit.

To do this, you will need to get an affidavit from a notary public. The affidavit should state that the date of birth on your NYSC registration is incorrect and that the correct date of birth is 8th April 1995. You will also need to attach a copy of your WAEC certificate to the affidavit.

Once you have the affidavit, you can submit it to the NYSC along with a letter requesting a change of date of birth. The NYSC will review your application and make a decision.

In your case, since you have used the correct date of birth for everything else, it is unlikely that the NYSC will have a problem with changing your date of birth on your NYSC registration. However, it is always best to check with the NYSC to make sure.

Here are the steps on how to apply for a change of date of birth with NYSC:

      1. Get an affidavit from a notary public.
      2. Attach a copy of your WAEC certificate to the affidavit.
      3. Write a letter to the NYSC requesting a change of date of birth.
      4. Submit the affidavit, WAEC certificate, and letter to the NYSC.

The NYSC will review your application and make a decision. It may take a few weeks for them to process your application.

      I hope this helps!

    • Yes, you should send an email to NYSC support to fix the mistake on your DOB on the NYSC portal. Here are the steps on how to do it:

      1. Go to the NYSC portal and login to your account.
      2. Click on the “Contact Us” link.
      3. Select the “Correction of Date of Birth” option.
      4. Fill out the form and attach a scanned copy of your WAEC certificate.
      5. Click on the “Submit” button.

NYSC will review your request and get back to you within a few days.

      • Years ago someone did my registration for both waec and jamb I never knew the date of birth was incorrect(1991) until I collected my original waec, but went for affidavit that was when I gained admission. Last year I went for jamb regularization and I added my real age(1997) same age I used in school. Fast forward… I was giving an exemption, If I should correct my date of birth on waec or jamb cos I never knew it jamb old reg number nysc is using. Will I still go for service in the future?

        Reply
        • Yes, you should correct your date of birth on your WAEC and JAMB results. The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) uses your JAMB date of birth to determine your mobilization status, so if your JAMB date of birth is incorrect, you will not be able to serve.

You can correct your date of birth on your WAEC result by submitting an application to WAEC. You will need to provide your WAEC registration number, your original WAEC certificate, and an affidavit stating that your date of birth is incorrect.

You can correct your date of birth on your JAMB result by submitting an application to JAMB. You will need to provide your JAMB registration number, your original JAMB certificate, and an affidavit stating that your date of birth is incorrect.

Once you have corrected your date of birth on your WAEC and JAMB results, you can apply for NYSC exemption again. If your application is approved, you will not be required to serve in the future.

    Reply
    • If the year you entered school and the year you finished are showing 0 on your NYSC green card, but the date of graduation is correct, it is possible that this is not a problem.

The NYSC (National Youth Service Corps) may have simply not included these fields on your green card. However, it is also possible that there is an error in your green card.

If you are concerned that there is an error in your NYSC green card, you can contact the NYSC to request a replacement card.

  25. I have a question, I used a date of graduation which was displayed on nysc portal as 2021, for registration. But the date of graduation on my statement of result is 2023. Since graduation date must match I don’t know what to do. Will there be room for correction?

    Reply
    • Unfortunately, you will not be able to correct the date of graduation once you have reported to the orientation camp. This is because NYSC will not correct the date of graduation once a state code number has been issued.

If you have a discrepancy between the date of graduation on your statement of result and what was uploaded by your institution to the NYSC portal, you should resolve the problem with your Student Affairs Officer (SAO) before reporting to camp. You should not proceed to camp until the correction is effected.

The time to contact your school to resolve such discrepancy is now that online registration is in progress. Once the online registration closes, you will not be able to make any changes to your registration details.

        • Yes, your qualification will be corrected in your NYSC green card. The NYSC usually takes about 2 weeks to process qualification correction requests. However, it may take longer during peak periods, such as the registration period.

If your qualification is not corrected by the time you report to camp, you should bring the original copy of your degree certificate to camp. The NYSC will verify your qualification and make the necessary changes to your green card.

You will not need to print out another green card if your qualification is corrected. The NYSC will update your green card electronically.

The only way to correct your date of birth after registration is to apply for a correction on your dashboard. However, the deadline for applying for a correction has passed, so you will need to contact the NYSC directly to inquire about your options.

It is possible to change your date of birth (DOB) on the JAMB portal even after NYSC registration, provided you have not completed your NYSC registration and have not made the required payment.

To change your DOB on the JAMB portal, follow these steps:

        1. Visit the JAMB eFacility portal at https://portal.jamb.gov.ng/efacility/
        2. Login with your JAMB email address and password.
        3. Click “Application for Correction of Data” from the list of available services.
        4. Select “Change of Date of Birth” from the drop-down menu and click on “Continue.”
        5. Follow the instructions to complete the change of DOB process.
        6. Print out the confirmation slip for future reference after completing the process.

Also, ensure that the information provided during the change of DOB process is accurate and matches the information on your other documents, including your NYSC registration.

I don’t know if i should go ahead to my school academic student affairs to put the form on hold until the error on jamb get corrected or can i still be able to correct my DOB on NYSC portal with my waec if i exceeded the age limit for service before result approved my senate.

          • I understand your confusion. It is important to correct your date of birth on your JAMB and NYSC records as soon as possible. If you exceed the age limit for service before your result is approved by the senate, you will not be able to serve.

I recommend that you contact your school’s academic affairs office to see if they can put a hold on your NYSC pre-mobilization form until the error on your JAMB is corrected. They may also be able to help you get a copy of your statement of result so that you can know the date your institution senate approved your result.

Once the error on your JAMB is corrected, you can then correct your date of birth on your NYSC portal. You will need to provide a copy of your corrected JAMB certificate and your WAEC certificate.

    • Hello Ucee,

      Sorry about your experience.

I advise you give it a few more days for the changes to effect.

It should reflect within a week.

    • Pls help. There was a mistake on my Jamb DOB. It appears 22nd march instead of 20th march. The mistake didnt affect the year and the month though. Just the 2days variation. Meanwhile, all other credentials of mine bears my correct DOB. Can I make the changes before or during NYSC registration?
