How to Get Secondary or High School Transcript in Nigeria 2024

A secondary school or high school transcript is an official document that contains the compilation of your secondary school results.

The WAEC or NECO result cannot serve as your secondary school transcript. It is different from the SSCE O’level certificate.

Universities and Colleges abroad, like the USA, Canada, UK, Russia, Norway, Germany, etc., require your secondary school or high school transcript as admission requirements.

Secondary schools in Nigeria give secondary school transcripts to students who want to study abroad or for other purposes.

It will take you less than one (1) week to get the secondary school transcript.

This post is about the procedures to get your secondary school or high school transcript in Nigeria.

Let me know in the comment section if you have questions or need further clarification. I would love to hear from you.

  1. hello good afternoon, thank you for what you do. Please in responses to your replies, I finished from a school [JSS2-SS3] even took the WAEC exam there but didn’t pass all subject so, I went for second school and took only the WAEC and passed all subject and got certificate for the WAEC there now, I need transcript from the second school and can I ask them to also generate my JSS 1-SS2 for me even if I didn’t school there. Because even my JSS1 was from another school but I was told my final school can help it to avoid confusion.

    Reply
    • Yes, you can certainly request a transcript from the second school where you passed your WAEC exams and received the certificate. This is standard procedure and they should be able to provide you with an official document detailing your grades in the subjects you took.

Let me know if you have further questions.

    • No, Maxwell,

The transcript must be compiled by your school.

You writing your WAEC exams in a different school is not a problem.

  4. Hey Blessing,

You have done an amazing job with this post and doing amazingly well all round. This post has really helped me to confirm that I could get my secondary school transcript for some further education/certification I am applying for here in Portugal.

I know it might be tough when I contact my school principal because I graduated far back as 2008. However, with this post and sample shared, I should be able to get it done.

I will keep you posted when everything is sorted.

Muito Obrigado champ, we are proud of your works.

What you can do now is to give either school a sample of the transcript.

  6. Hi..
    Thanks for this wonderful article..
I want to ask, do public secondary schools also give these transcripts?
And to the best of your knowledge, what is the average processing fee that schools charge for transcripts..
I know it varies, but I just need a figure to prepare myself.
    Thanks

    Reply
    • Yes, public secondary schools also give transcripts. Transcripts are official records of your academic performance at a school. They typically include your grades, credits earned, and courses taken.

The average processing fee for transcripts varies from school to school. However, it is typically between 5k and 10k. Some schools may charge more for expedited processing or for transcripts that are sent internationally.

To get a transcript from a public secondary school, you will need to contact the school’s principal’s office. They will be able to tell you the cost of the transcript and the process for ordering it.

  7. Good day,

Please i applied for an undergraduate degree in USA, therefore i was told to submit my Final High School Transcript.

My question is that, is it only my SS3 transcript or from JSS1 – SS3 are they asking for.

    Reply
    • The US university you applied to may require your transcripts from JSS1 to SS3. This is because they want to see your academic performance throughout your high school education.

They may also want to see if you have taken any AP or IB courses, which are considered to be more rigorous than regular high school courses.

I have a big problem on which transcript I should summit to my school in Canada, two years ago I wrapped up my 2y ND diploma in polymer engineer which my transcript are already with me. I wrote my WAEC in 2018 and NECO in 2019 in different schools and I equally attended different school from the schools I wrote my SSCE exams. And the issue here is I applied three universities in Canada , one university need my NECO result , 2y diploma result and transcripts and two universities need my WAEC result and my 2y Diploma result and transcripts. Please how do I solve that?

    • Hello Silver,

Navigating transcript submission can be a bit tricky when you have academic records from multiple schools and different examination boards.

I can see the only challenge here is with attending different secondary schools.

What you can do here is to visit any of the schools and inquiry which would be willing to process your secondary school transcript.

Cause the school I schooled from jss1 to ss2 can’t provide my transcript

    • In Nigeria, a 10th+12 high school transcript refers to students’ academic records from junior secondary school (JSS1-JSS3) to senior secondary school (SS1-SS3). These records include information such as subjects studied, grades obtained, and overall performance.

Regarding your second question, obtaining your full transcript may not be accessible if the school you attended cannot provide it. However, you can try contacting the examination body that administered your final exams (such as WAEC) and see if they can provide a statement of result or other documentation to verify your academic history.

You can also try contacting the Ministry of Education in your state or the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to see if they can assist you in obtaining your transcript.

          • Hello Ceejay,

Your situation is a bit complex since you do not have an academic record for senior secondary school.

My recommendation is to see if your former school where you wrote your Junior WAEC can provide you with a transcript.

Also, the school you are applying to study in Canada may provide a waiver for your transcript.

Do well to contact the school.

  36. First, am so happy to find this page cos it has given me sleepless nights finding answers to my questions.
I attended a govt secondary sch from my jss1 to ss3 and wrote my waec but unfortunately I failed maths and English put passes with my remaining subjects as an art student with the name as Ekhator Uyi Vincent, but I moved to another sch to sit for the waec exam again but I passed my all my subject as a commercial student without writing literature with my name as Ekhator Vincent Uyi, so I want to ask which of the secondary sch transcript do I have to submit or it requires I submit from both schools? Now am applying for a course abroad that belongs to the art department which I didn’t pass very well but when I obtained my OND I tendered both waec results because I studied mass communication so it requires literature. So am quite confused if my commercial waec results can get me the course abroad or it doesn’t matter,?? So the other school where I got my waec results shows how my name is supposed to be arranged which was an error from my previous school because I only used only two names which was ekhator Uyi so it was mandatory to include the 3rd name which they didn’t fix. So I want to ask again if that won’t be an issue if using both schools transcript because of the rearrangement of names but I later after some few years swear an affidavit to it. Can I attached the two waec results to get the art course am applying for. Please I need you to give me a guide pls.

    • Hello Vincent,

I’m sorry I’m only giving you a reply now.

Some schools abroad don’t need your WAEC result. You can use the transcripts from your Government school, including the transcripts from Jss1-SS2 and then submit the other 1 you got from the other school for SS3.

For the mix-up in your name, you can write to the school explaining what happened.

You can make use of your OND transcripts if you do not have secondary school transcripts.

But you might need to write to the school telling them why you do not have your secondary school transcripts.

If you can get only the transcript SS3 class, you can use it.

        • Usually, colleges abroad, especially in the US, only request for transcripts of your high school education which is Grade 9-12 or JSS3-SS3 in Nigerian education. Including your JSS1 and 2 is not relevant. In a place like US, those classes are under middle school not high school

    • Please, I contacted my school director on secondary school transcripts he said has not done such before. I then Explained to him what is all about. 40. Hi good day Mister,
I’m quite confused n lost here and I’ll really appreciate your help please
So, I went through 3 different secondary schools due to my parents travel and work and presently I’m not within those schools (i.e) I’m outside those states but fortunately I just completed NCE and I have my results here. Can I use this NCE or rather process a transcript from this NCE and use it as my transcript for an undergraduate studies abroad?

I really hope this gets to you on time
    Thanks in anticipation

    • Goodness,

A waiver happens when you cannot submit your secondary school transcript.

The institution can offer you admission without the transcript certificate.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

    • Hello Goodness,

      1. Yes, the transcript is necessary, except you get a waiver.

      2. You cannot use your WAEC results in place of the Secondary Transcript.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

  43. Hello,
I went to my secondary school to collect my transcript, but it is only ss3 transcript they give. I asked them for my js3-ss3 thinking that was what I should collect. I discovered it’s supposed to be from js1-ss3 so I’m in the process of getting a new one. My school gives grades in both A-F and 1-100 so on the transcript my grades per trimester are in A-F and my cumulative grades per class are in 1-100. Would this be a problem in my admissions process?

Would appreciate your response

    • Hello Joy,

First, I am sorry for your experience with getting your secondary school transcript.

I see the problem is you cannot get your secondary school results to your principal.

The next option is to send a message to the admission office of the school you are applying to study.

Explain you are unable to get your secondary school transcript due to reasons beyond your control.

I am hoping they will be able to provide a waiver for your transcript.

In that case, you would submit your WAEC result in place of your secondary school transcript.

You could also press forward to see if your former principal can help you with your transcript.

  45. Greetings sir,
I have a plan to travel abroad in the next few months, Canada precisely. I graduated from high school 2020 and the COVID and ASUU strike made me to still be in 100Level, we haven’t done any tests or exam not to talk of getting transcripts from my university. So my dad says if I get there, they will send me back to like SS2 in Canada. I don’t want to go back to high school. I’ve done my research and I see that’s not the right way. Now, I want to go get transcripts from my secondary school. But I need your advice sir. What can I do?

I hope you are having a great day.

You will not have any challenges with your change of name.

But you would be required to provide official documents authenticating your name change.

I hope you are having a great day.

It would still be the same method to get your transcript result.

      Visit your former school.

Meet with the principal to request your transcript result.

Let me know if you have further questions.

  47. Hello good afternoon, please I’m in a delima now, I did my junior secondary school in a separate school and my SS1 and Ss2 in a separate school then my senior waec in a different school. My question now is, is it possible to submit the transcript of my Ss1 and 2 and then my waec from another school?

    • Hello Angela,

I hope you are having a great day.

To answer your question, your WAEC result does not count as your transcript.

You can get the transcript for your Junior Secondary school plus for your SS1 and SS2.

      That would do.

Let me know if you have further questions.

But did my waec and neco in another school(private) , so am asking can I still use the school transcript even though I did not do my ssce there, won’t it affect the online process sir.

    • Hello Sunkanmi,

It depends on which school would give you your transcript.

Try out the Private school you took your WAEC and NECO exams if they can process the transcript for you.

      That would resolve your dilemma.

Let me know if you have further questions.

I hope you are having a great day.

The High School transcript grade is the cumulative total of your academic performance in secondary school.

I advise you to contact the school you are applying to study for further clarification.

I would love to hear the response from the school concerning the High School Transcript Grade.

It is quite unfortunate your former school no longer exists.

The only option you have is to contact the school informing them of your predicament.

I am hoping they would provide a waiver for your secondary school transcript.

  50. Greetings, Sir.
Please, suppose I have a good GCE (private) WAEC result, but my school transcript is not good (in terms of the grades). Do you think the foreign school I apply to, will still accept my request (that’s coupled with my SAT), despite the poor High School record ?

    • Hello Paul,

I hope you are having a great day.

To answer your question, it depends on the school you are applying to study at.

Most, universities abroad would accept your secondary school transcript for admission.

The best thing to do is to contact the admission office of the school you are applying to study for a review of your transcript.

I am optimistic they will accept your transcript.

Let me know if you have further questions.

-$85 fee (or request a fee waiver).

-SAT or ACT (with or without writing) – optional for 2022-2026 application cycles.

I schooled in 2 different secondary school. Jss1-3 government school. Sss1-3 private school. But I’ve gotten the transcript for my senior secondary school remaining that of junior secondary but I have my basic education certificate from junior secondary school which is the government sch.. so my question is can I upload the basic education certificate along side with the senior secondary transcript from the private sch. Just to certify and back it up that I truly attended jss and can that basic education certificate also serve as my transcript

    • Hello James,

I hope you are doing well and having a great day!

Your Basic Education Certificate cannot stand as a transcript.

Have you tried to get the transcript from your Junior Secondary School?

Your best bet is to send a mail to the school you are applying to study of your intention to substitute a part of the transcript with the Basic Education Certificate.

I am optimistic you would get a green light to go on with the upload.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

        • Hello Mercy,

It is possible to apply for a scholarship abroad but you’ll be applying as an undergraduate.

You can only be admitted to school abroad as an undergraduate starting from year one. This is because NCE is considered a Post High School diploma abroad.
