OAU Post UTME Exam

A man and a woman looking at a computer screen

The Post Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) is a critical and mandatory examination across all federal Universities in the country.

It is an exam that enables Federal, State and Private universities in Nigeria to test the knowledge of candidates interested in being admitted into their institutions.

It is an exam that makes it possible for candidates to have experience with how the academic structure of each University is being moderated.

Indeed, it is not enough to pass the Joint Admission Matriculation Board exam (JAMA).

Each candidate is expected to pass the post-UTME exam of their desired University.

If they can pass the exam, it shows that they are eligible to meet up with the standard of that institution.

And if they didn’t pass, they are below the requirements to be considered a student at that institution.

OAU Post UTME Format

Obafemi Awolowo University is not exempt from using this method or system in admitting its candidates into the school.

The OAU Post UTME exam is a forty (40) question exam that cuts across four (4) subjects in which the English language is a Compulsory subject to take, other three JAMB subject combination and aptitude questions (Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, Critical Thinking).

The pass mark for Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) admission is twenty-five (25).

OAU Post UTME exam tests your accuracy, precision, and speed. It is an exam that is very tricky but simple.

Many candidates have failed this exam year in and year out because they didn’t carefully analyze the detailed information about how to pass the OAU Post UTME exam.

Almost every candidate prepares and studies well for the exam, but unfortunately, only a few will pass.

In 2018, over 45,000 candidates sat for the exams, but only 5,600 passed the examination and then gained admission.

As I said earlier, the exam is easy to pass but very technical.

I will give you some tips on passing the exam with a high grade.

How to Pass OAU Post UTME Exam

In this article session, I will show you the steps you will need to take to prepare for the OAU Post UTME exams and then pass the exams.

It is a fact that all students need to prepare for the exam, but when it comes to OAU exams, there is a HOW to prepare for the exams. So, let’s dive in.

  1. Early Preparations
  2. Target a High Post UTME Score
  3. Study and Practice OAU Post UTME Past Questions
  4. Learn Exam Time Management
  5. Seek Help and Ask Questions
  6. Join a Network Base

Early Preparations

Early preparations are indeed the first step to passing the Post UTME exam.

Most candidates make the mistake of relaxing too much after writing JAMB.

But that is a terrible attitude, especially for candidates who desire to be a student of OAU.

You will need to continue your preparations; you will need to study hard and well, constantly to remind yourself what you’ve learned in your Secondary School days.

It is essential because OAU Post UTME is very foundational and Technical.

The school is interested in those who clearly understand the basis of each subject.

Target a High Post UTME Score

When you set a high target score, it enables you to read and study without limit.

It will also help you to be consistent in your reading.

For instance, the pass mark is twenty-five (25), but if you set a target of thirty-five (35) to forty (40), you will likely get a grade in the twenty to thirty-five (20-35) range.

But if you don’t set a high target score for yourself, scoring twenty-five (25) in the exams might be your highest feat but may not guarantee admission.

Remember, the competition is very high.

Study and Practice OAU Post UTME Past Questions

A student with a laptop

Studying and practising the Post UTME past questions is the most crucial step you must take as long as the post time for OAU is concerned.

Studying their past questions will expose you to the methodology and policies they set questions.

You will also understand the angle or perspective by which the questions will come.

So, if you get familiar with those past questions, you are already at an advantage in passing the Post UTME exam with a very high grade.

For candidates in Sciences, most questions might not be repeated year in and year out, but the formalities to which they set the questions will always be the same.

When you solve all the year’s past questions of every question you are preparing for, it seems that you already have ten marks before starting the exam.

Learn Exam Time Management

While preparing for the OAU post-UTME exam, you must prepare for the modalities of the exams, not just the questions.

It is so because the school is not just testing your intelligence, but your accuracy and precision that can be measured in time.

There is an allocated time for each question in the exam.

As an intelligent student, they want you to beat that time and be much faster than the allocated time.

It will help you to have enough time to cross-check your work again for the second time and look for errors to correct.

When you do this, you have successfully escaped the technicality of the exam, and by then, students will much favour you.

You can easily practice time management with the past questions with you.

Set a time limit, and make sure you beat it. The more consistent you are in doing this, the more expert you will become before the examination.

Seek Help and Ask Questions

Woman sitting in front of a MacBook

It is very mandatory for you as you prepare for the exam.

You don’t assume you know it all; you are expected to ask questions occasionally to know what to do.

Because the modalities of the exam change yearly, you will not find in the past question you are studying; you can only get this knowledge for people who have passed the exam before.

It would help if you interacted with the stylites of the institution for better and more recent information that can help you.

Join a Network Base

get rid of distraction

It is the last step to take as you prepare for the exam.

The measure of the circle of like-minded you have connected with makes you stay informed at all times.

You are expected to have joined your prospective class groups or faculty to ask questions and be well-informed.

When you network yourself, you will be more prepared than ever because of your knowledge about the technicality of the exam.

OAU Post UTME Subject Combination

It is an essential aspect of the exam that we must analyze carefully.

Many candidates lost or forfeited their admission because of the wrong subject combination.

Indeed, OAU will not accept or reject your subject combination before you write the exam, but they will carefully look into it before giving you admission.

When you join the right network and ask questions, you can solve this issue early. All subjects may suit you, but not all subjects can guarantee admission.

This knowledge will enable you to make your choices and make the right decision.

For science students, you should be aware that science as a department in your previous College now has many departments in the University.

The following are the subject combinations for the OAU Post UTME exam;

  • Physical Science (Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry)
  • Biological Science(Physics, Chemistry, and Biology)
  • Industrial Science (Mathematics, Chemistry, and Biology)
  • Social Science (Mathematics, Economics, and Geography)

When you understand this combination, it will be easier for you to pick the right combination and escape any Technical issues in the future.

For Arts students, you are to be aware that arts as a department in your previous College now have many departments in the University.

We now have Law, Humanity, Physical Arts, and management or Administrative Arts.

When you understand this, you will inform about how to pick the right subject combination.

Conclusion
