UNICAL Hostel and Off Campus Accommodation 2025

Welcome great Malabite and Malabresses to the big city of Calabar. Congratulations on your admission to the University of Calabar (UNICAL) or welcome back home for the returning students.

In UNICAL, there are male hostels for Malabites (male students) and female hostels for the Malabresses (ladies).

Getting either a UNICAL school hostel or off-campus accommodation is challenging for newly admitted and returning students.

In this article, you will read about the various accommodation options, prices and locations for UNICAL students.

UNICAL Hostel Accommodation

The following are the names of hostels at the University of Calabar (UNICAL);

• Hall 2
• Hall 2 Annex
• Hall 4
• Hall 5
• Hall 6
• Hall 7a and 7b
• Hall 8
• Hall 9
• Hall 10
• Windsworth Hostel

Students get UNICAL hostels on a first-come, first-served basis at the UNICAL hostel portal.

UNICAL Hostel Locations

It is necessary to know the hostel locations and their application requirements as a UNICAL student.

All the hostels except Hall 2, Hall 2 Annex and Hall 7a and 7b are in Malabor within the school campus.

UNICAL Medical Hostel

The location for Hall 2 and Hall 2 Annex are on campus but not in Malabor but on the main university campus.

They are for Medical and Dental students.

Hall 7a and 7b are not on campus. Their location is Moore road and Calabar road in the Calabar environs.

Other hostels from these four (4) are available to students from other UNICAL Faculty and departments.

UNICAL Male Hostels

The following are the names of the male UNICAL hostels;

• Hall 2 Annex
• Hall 4
• Hall 5
• Hall 7b

Hall 2 and Hall 7a is a mixed hostel for male and female students.

Each of these hostels has a maximum of four (4) occupants per room.

UNICAL Female Hostels

The following are the names of UNICAL female hostels;

• Hall 6
• Hall 8
• Hall 9
• Hall 10

The female hostels have a maximum of four (4) occupants per room.

UNICAL Hall 10 Hostels

Hall 10 is the best hostel at the University of Calabar (UNICAL). It is a hostel for UNICAL female students.

As a female, you need to experience hostel life at Hall 10 before leaving school.

Female students prefer to live here because it is a new housing facility with top-notch sanitary conditions.

The accommodation price for Hall 10 is much higher than that of every other hostel, both male and female included.

The sacrifice for comfort if you were to ask me.

UNICAL Hostel Information

Living at the UNICAL hostel accommodation is not compulsory for University of Calabar students.

Freshers or newly admitted students should stay in the hostel. It will be much easier for them to find their way around while living in school than living off-campus.

In UNICAL, newly admitted and final year students get the preference for hostel allocation.

UNICAL Hostel Eligibility

The UNICAL hostel application requirement is the payment of your school fees on the school portal.

Allocations for the hostels are on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Ensure that you apply when the hostel portal opens for students. It will increase your chances of getting hostel accommodation.

Bear in mind that each hostel can only admit a certain amount of students. If the quota for that hostel is exhausted, you cannot get accommodation in that hostel anymore, even if you applied for that particular hostel.

If you’re lucky enough, you may be given accommodation in a different hostel if that hostel has a vacancy.

But if no other hostel has any space available, you would be left with no hostel accommodation.

You must pay your fees as early as possible to be among the first set of students to apply.

UNICAL Hostel Application

Students get a notification on the school portal once the hostel application commences. It is usually right around the time a new session begins.

Step-by-step, I’m going to walk you through the process of applying for hostel accommodation below:

• Visit the UNICAL Hostel Undergraduate portal
• Click on the APPLY NOW button
• Enter your school fees pin
• Click on Validate school fees pin
• Fill out the hostel biodata form
• Click on the Submit button
• Wait for further instructions from the student affairs division.
• Pay twenty-one thousand and five hundred (₦21,500) for your hostel fee at the UNICAL Microfinance bank

The payment for the hostel is within a given time frame.

Male and female students pay twenty-one thousand and five hundred (₦21,500) for hostel accommodation in UNICAL.

UNICAL Hostel Fee

Here is the UNICAL hostel accommodation fee for male and female students;

• Hall 2 = ₦21,500
• Hall 2 Annex = ₦21,500
• Hall 4 = ₦21,500
• Hall 5 = ₦21,500
• Hall 6 = ₦21,500
• Hall 7a and 7b = ₦21,500
• Hall 8 = ₦21,500
• Hall 9 = ₦21,500
• Hall 10 = ₦80,000
• Windsworth Hostel = ₦105,000 – 320,000

UNICAL Hostel Clearance Documents

Here are the documents required for UNICAL hostel clearance;

• Two (2) file jackets
• Photocopy of your school fees receipt
• Accommodation bank receipt
• Two (2) passports

You will get a receipt after your documentation for your hostel clearance.

Then, you are free to move into the hostel.

Windsworth hostel is the approved private hostel of the University of Calabar (UNICAL).

The hostel design is to help students focus on studying while they provide everything else. It is for the comfort you deserve

3. Click on Sign Up
4. Fill up your details in the biodata form
5. Click Sign up
6. Verify your email address
7. Login to the Windsworth hostel portal
8. Select your preferred room capacity
9. Select payment modes
10. Select room number
11. Click on online or bank payment method

Windsworth Hostel Pricing Models

• One (1) – man room = ₦320,000
• Two (2) – man rooms = ₦180,000
• Four (4) – man room = ₦105,000

UNICAL Off Campus Accommodation

There are off-campus accommodations available for UNICAL students.

Their pricing for off campus hostels depends on their location and closeness to the University campus.

Off Campus Location

You can decide to live within Etta-agbor. It is the location for UNICAL.

Another option is to look within neighbouring areas such as;

• Goldie
• Satellite town
• Atimbo
• Marian

Note that some of these places are within walking distance of the school. For other locations, you’d have to pay transport fare to school.

Cost Off Campus Accommodation

The cost for an off-campus lodge in UNICAL depends on its location and closeness to school.

For example, self- contains within walking distance from the school can cost anywhere between ₦200,000 and ₦400,000.

Lodges not within walking distance but also close to the school can range anywhere from ₦150,000 to ₦1400,000.

So, if you have the money and you’re looking for privacy or derive comfort in staying alone, this can be the best option for you.

Cons of UNICAL Off Campus Accommodation

But since these areas are outside of the school campus, certain disadvantages come with living in these places.

Goldie doesn’t receive much power supply, while some areas in Satellite town aren’t known for being safe and secure.

Concerning Marian and Atimbo, you’d have to pay a small amount of money ranging from ₦50 to ₦200 to transport yourself to the University.

Depending on the traffic situation, you may arrive at lectures late.

Both places are safe and have an adequate power supply.
