How to Pass University of Ibadan (UI) Post UTME Exam 2024

The University of Ibadan, often referred to as UI, is the most prestigious University in Nigeria.

Studying at the undergraduate or postgraduate level at the University of Ibadan is the dream of every Nigerian student.

Come to think of it, who wouldn’t want to study at the first and most highly-ranked Federal University in Nigeria?

Well, the challenge is only a few students get the opportunity to gain admission to study at UI, the premier University.

The fact is nothing good comes easy. You must study hard to pass the JAMB and ace the Post UTME examinations with flying colours.

Not to discourage you, but the University of Ibadan Post UTME exams is the most difficult among all the Universities in Nigeria.

In this post, I will guide and give you practical study tips to pass the University of Ibadan and gain admission to UI.

Students applying to study Medicine, Engineering, Social Sciences, Arts, Agriculture, and other disciplines at UI will find this post helpful.

Let me know in the comment if you have any questions or need further clarification. I would love to hear from you.

Before I go into the primary purpose of this purpose, I would like to give you crucial information about gaining admission to the University of Ibadan.

UI Post UTME Format

The first information you need to know as an aspirant of the University of Ibadan is the Post UTME screening format.

A student sitting for the UI screening exam without knowing what to expect would be terrible.

The format for the University of Ibadan (UI) is a computer-based test (CBT) comprising of hundred (100) questions on your four (4) JAMB subject combinations for ninety (90) minutes.

For example, a student applying to study Medical Laboratory Science at the University of Ibadan will sit for the following subjects;

The University of Ibadan Post UTME exam venue is the Centre for Distance Learning.

UI Post UTME Syllabus

The University of Ibadan Post UTME syllabus is all the topics you must study for the Post UTME exams.

All aspirants must study each topic in the syllabus to get a high score in the screening examination.

I know you would ask where to get this syllabus for the exam preparations.

The University of Ibadan Post UTME syllabus is the JAMB syllabus.

It means that the topics you studied for your JAMB examination are what you must cover once more for your UI Post UTME test.

Let me know if you have questions about the UI Post UTME syllabus.

How to Calculate UI Aggregate Score

Nigerian student studying

The formula to calculate the University of Ibadan (UI) Post UTME aggregate score for admission is to divide your JAMB score by eight (8) and your Post UTME score by two (2).

For example, Adedamola is applying to study Linguistics and African Studies at UI with a JAMB score of 268 and a Post UTME score of 62.

Her aggregate score would be thus;

  • JAMB: 268/8 = 33.5
  • Post UTME: = 31
  • UI Aggregate: 31 + 33.5 = 64.5

Now, that’s how to calculate your UI aggregate score for admission.

A high aggregate score above the departmental cut-off mark is how to get admission to the course you want to study at UI.

The University of Ibadan (UI) does not use O’level results (WAEC or NECO) for admission.

Applicants must only possess a minimum of credit passes in their five (5) relevant subject combinations.

UI accepts NECO and WAEC O’level results.

Tell me in the comment if you need further help or have questions about this calculation.

Let’s get into the primary purpose of this post.

The following are practical tips to prepare and pass the University of Ibadan (UI) Post UTME examination;

  1. Get a High JAMB Score
  2. Know the UI Post UTME Format
  3. Kill the Fear of Failure
  4. Study With the UI Post UTME Syllabus
  5. Practice Past Questions

Get a High JAMB Score

A student with a laptop

The first step to gaining admission to the University of Ibadan (UI) is to get a high JAMB UTME score.

As you know, UI is the most competitive University for admission in Nigeria.

You would contest the few available slots with other top-performing students in Nigeria.

Many students make the mistake of applying to UI with low JAMB scores for admission. There isn’t any way such candidates would stand a chance for admission.

For example, a student who wants to study Medicine and Surgery should have a JAMB score of 300 and above.

Let me know in the comment your JAMB score to know your chances of admission to the course you want to study at the University of Ibadan.

A high JAMB score is a gateway to studying at Nigeria’s premier University.

Know the UI Post UTME Format

Knowing the format for the University of Ibadan Post UTME examination is the only way to prepare and pass the screening test.

At the beginning of this post, I made emphasis on the format of the exam. But there is more information you must know to get a high score.

The University of Ibadan uses the Roman numerals format for its Post UTME screening test.

This method is a bit advanced, nothing you have encountered in Secondary School or JAMB examination.

Here is a sample of the UI Post UTME questions;

Questions: Mountains (highest)

(i) Chappal Waddi (ii) Zuma Rock (iii) Aso Rock (iv) Shere Hills

  • (a) i, iii, iv, ii
  • (b) iii, iv, ii i
  • (c) ii, iv, iii, i
  • (d) iv, iii, i, ii

The correct answer is option C.

You see, the Post UTME exam is no joke. Note that there may be a slight variation in the exam format for the next screening test.

Kill the Fear of Failure

a student studying with books on the table

Killing the fear of failure is necessary to perform excellently in the UI Post UTME examination.

Many students sit for the test without believing they can pass the exam or gain admission to the University of Ibadan.

You must develop a positive mindset throughout preparation to get a high score. It is with positivity for excellence you would put in your best to study for the exam.

The best way to gain confidence is to have a high JAMB score. You would have a firm reliance when you believe you can be among the selected few eligible for admission.

Let me know in the comment if you have any fears concerning the exam. I will like to help you.

Study With the UI Post UTME Syllabus

student studying with a laptop and book

Every student studying for the University of Ibadan Post UTME exam must use the UI syllabus to guide their preparations.

The UI area of concentration or syllabus contains the topics you must study to pass the UI screening test.

Fortunately, the UI Post UTME syllabus is identical to the JAMB syllabus.

Therefore, the University of Ibadan screening test is like repeatedly preparing for the JAMB exam. Only this time, you have more experience.

But I must tell you now that it would be helpful if you could use A’level materials for your preparations.

Practice Past Questions

student studying with laptop

Practising UI past questions is necessary to perform excellently at the University of Ibadan Post UTME examination.

The past questions will guide you to know the nature and test your exam preparation level.

Like the JAMB exam, past questions are necessary preparation materials.

It is necessary to note that the University of Ibadan does not have past questions booklet. Whatever material you would come across was prepared by private individuals.

But I advise you to get any quality materials you can use. Also, you would need to get the official UI practice questions to know the nature of the exam.

Remember that covering the Post UTME syllabus is the best practical way to gain admission to the University of Ibadan.

The University of Ibadan (UI) does not repeat past questions. The purpose of the past questions and answers is to test your level of preparation for the exam.

Attend Tutorials

Attending tutorials are a good option for students that need assistance with their studies.

During your JAMB preparations, you may have experienced difficulties with specific subjects or topics in the syllabus.

Now is the time to get help because you can not afford to fail the UI Post UTME exam.

One excellent option is to attend Post UTME introductory tutorials around the University of Ibadan campus.

Here, you will be taught by experienced teachers who know the structure of the UI Post UTME.

But for students living outside Ibadan, you wouldn’t need to worry as you have a high chance of excellence.

I recommend you attend good tutorials at your location and use YouTube videos to learn.

Yes, you do have a chance of passing the post-UTME for English Language and Literature at the University of Ibadan (UI) with a JAMB score of 246, even though you’ve only just started your preparation. The UI post-UTME is typically a test of your general knowledge and English language proficiency, so if you’re well-prepared in those areas, you should have a good chance of doing well.

Here are some tips for preparing for the UI post-UTME for English Language and Literature:

      1. Study the UI post-UTME past questions. This is the best way to get a feel for the types of questions that are asked and the level of difficulty. The UI post-UTME past questions are available online and in bookstores.

      2. Review your English Language and Literature textbooks and notes. Make sure you have a good understanding of the key concepts and topics that are covered in the syllabus.

      3. Practice answering different types of English Language and Literature questions. This includes multiple choice questions, essay questions, and short answer questions.

      4. Take a practice post-UTME test. This will help you to identify your strengths and weaknesses and to get used to the format of the exam.

Here are some ways to get the official UI practice questions:

      1. You can purchase the UI post-UTME past questions from the UI Bookshop.

      2. You can also download the UI post-UTME past questions from the UI website.
